As young teenagers we all make dumb decisions. Some may not be as bad as others and other decisions might be worse. Now, if you know me right now you’d probably think that I wouldn’t do anything so stupid that could cost me my life. You’re right, me as of right now wouldn’t. However myself in 2017 did.
One day in the month of September, 2017 I was planning on going to a quince with some of my friends. I got ready, and had to clean the house because Mexican moms don’t let you go out anywhere unless you clean! After that my mom and I went out to eat some food. Later on that day at about 6 is when my parents took me to the quince. The quince was located at Telephone Rd. If you’ve been there you know what the road looks like, straight and a lot of gravel. So once I got dropped off I said goodbye to my parents and met up with my friends. The party was pretty boring at first, but then we saw a few of our other friends.
We asked them what they thought about the party and they agreed that it was boring. That’s when they told us that they were leaving to go to another quince then asked if we wanted to go with them. My friends and I said yes because we had nothing better to do. I had asked my friend who would be driving and he said he was. Keep in mind my friend didn’t have his license. So being young and dumb I just said okay and walked over to the van with them. It was his parents van that all of us barely fit in. I was at the edge of the second seat with no seatbelt because there could only be three people on that row and I was the fourth person so I didn’t have a seatbelt.
As we are driving off all of us are talking to each other, laughing, and just having fun. At one point I was on my phone because I was texting someone back at the time. I hear my friends yelling at my friend driving yelling at him to slow down and that it wasn’t funny. He is shocked himself and yelling back saying that he can’t. At this point I look up to see what was going on and we are going so fast and before I know it we are flipping. Suddenly everything went black. We flipped about three times onto the fields breaking a pipe. The van landed sideway, but luckily none of us got seriously injured and was able to get out of the van. However since I was on the edge I was the last to get out because the van landed on my side. Once we all had got out of the van we didn’t know what to say or do and explained to our friend that he had to stay with the car since it was his parents van and another of our friends offered to stay with him. The rest of us were covered in mud and dirt and glasses stuck in our clothes with cuts and bruises. We weren’t to far from the quince we were just at so this all happened within minutes.
My friend had mentioned that we walk back to the quince to clean ourselves up. After we got back some of my other friends were there who had seen what happened and asked all of us if we were okay. I didn’t want to stay at the party knowing what had just happened so I called another one of my friends to pick me up and he did then took me home. When I got home my parents weren’t there but I knew I had to tell them because it wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t. I called my mom and told her when she gets home I needed to talk to her. My parents got home and I explained to her what happened. She wasn’t mad at me luckily but she was glad that I was okay and said that we all could have died or got seriously hurt. My dad was upset but also happy that I was okay. This experience gave me an important life lesson that I will not forget and that I will always remember that I had guardian angels by my side.
