In the beginning of the year, I was actually excited to be back at school. Well I guess that’s because I haven’t gone to school since before winter break of last school year. School started on August 12th. That morning I remember getting ready for school and being a bit nervous because I haven’t seen a lot of people in awhile and they haven’t seen me. I arrived at school with many goals, which were to succeed in all my classes, maintain a 3.0 or higher, and get back to being involved.
When Dr. Preston first told the class that our two options were to do book work or an online course. I was confused because after that, he left the classroom and left it up to our class to decide. That was the first time I have ever had a teacher do that. The whole class felt the same as I did, but we soon came to an agreement that we do the online course. Dr. Preston later explained to us what the online course was and what we will be doing throughout the year.
The online course that we would be doing was maintaining a blog. Not only that, but we also were required to have a journal, or notebook, and we were to write in it everyday about the journal topic (which would be posted on Dr. Preston’s blog). Knowing this information I felt that I was going to do great in Dr. Prestons class because writing is something I enjoy doing so I was glad we’d still be doing some sort of writing. Later on we were assigned our first poem to memorize. In my opinion I was not really stressing it because I thought it would be easy and it was. However, I didn’t like the fact that we had to post a video of us memorizing the poem on our blogs. The reason for this is because personally I’m a shy person in certain situations and it could be difficult sometimes.
Like most students before the new school year started, I too told myself that I would stay on track and not fall behind. Now for the most part I didn’t, but I’m human and started to procrastinate. So far this year I have had a lot of things to consider. I’ve come to the conclusion that being involved in a sport or club can be very time consuming and stressful. This has been my third year doing cheer, and as much I love it I have decided to not continue to do it. Being apart of cheer permitted me from having a lot of time to get things done. Not only that but it also hasn’t been a good year as a team. As of right now I want to focus on getting a job so I can help my parents out and so I can be able to provide for myself as well. Also, I want to prioritize earning at least a 3.0 gpa and getting my permit. Being a teachers aide has helped me a lot with making up blog posts or journal entries because when my teacher doesn’t have any papers for me to grade or anything else to do I have free time to use towards making up those missed assignments.
Overall, this year has been a roller coaster full of ups and downs and with important decisions to make. The person I am now is not the same as I was in the beginning of the year. Now I am even more determined to achieve the goals I have set, and plan to keep my focus for the rest of the year.
